Ölüdeniz and Butterfly Valley by boat from D-Resort Göcek
The Blue Lagoon from the water is the only side of it worth seeing, and it is the view every photograph is taken from.
How close you can get
The lagoon itself is a protected nature park and closed to yachts. Boats anchor off Belcekız beach and guests go in by tender or walk. Twenty minutes further, Butterfly Valley sits under cliffs three hundred metres high with a stream and a footpath up the back.
When to go
Leave Göcek by nine. The stretch past Gemiler Island is open water and the afternoon breeze makes it lumpy after two, so the comfortable version of this day is early out and back by five. On a windy week we swap it for Dalyan.
