Marmaris, Bodrum, Göcek and Datça
Hisarönü Gulf
Twenty-two miles of protected water between the Datça and Bozburun peninsulas. The bays here are deep, the holding is good and the meltemi arrives softened by the hills.
Gulf of Gökova
Thirty-five miles east from Bodrum with pine down to the water on the north shore and nothing but mountain on the south. A no-take marine reserve since 2010, which is why there are still fish.
Göcek and the Twelve Islands
Thirty anchorages inside one bay, none more than an hour apart, all of it inside a national park. The easiest cruising ground in Turkey and the reason Göcek has six marinas for a village of four thousand.
Datça peninsula
Eighty kilometres of peninsula with the Aegean on one side and the Mediterranean on the other, and Knidos at the tip where they meet. Almonds, thyme honey and the cleanest air in Muğla.
