Datça
A small town that has stayed small because the road takes so long. Almonds, thyme honey and olive oil come from the peninsula around it. The Saturday market is worth planning around; old Datça, fifteen minutes uphill, is worth the walk.
Knidos
An hour further west, on the last headland, with a harbour on each side so a boat can shelter whichever way the wind blows. Marble column drums, the terrace of a round temple and a theatre above two blue bays. Almost nobody arrives by road.
