What the paperwork actually involves
A Turkish transit log, an outward clearance from Marmaris or Datça, a crew list matching passports exactly, and an inward clearance in Greece. None of it is difficult and all of it is slow. Six weeks is comfortable; two is not.
Symi, and why everybody comes back
Ochre, cream and terracotta neoclassical houses stacked around one narrow harbour, the monastery at Panormitis with its baroque bell tower, and the cliff bay of Agios Georgios on the east side where three hundred metres of rock go straight up from the water. Arrive late afternoon for the light.
